Shock moves take place in every transfer window, and 2021 could see Sergio Romero returning to the Premier League to become a Chelsea footballer.
Romero is currently a free agent after parting ways with Manchester United on 1 July and after a loan stint in Italy with Sampdoria.
According to The Telegraph, Chelsea is working on signing Romero before the transfer window shuts and as the club's experienced third choice after Willy Caballero's departure as cover for the leading choices Eduardo Mendy and Kepa Arrizabalaga.
Romero on the brink of joining Everton before last season but United prevented the move before the Argentine was frozen out of the squad.
Meanwhile, the Blues will take on Bournemouth in a preseason friendly on Tuesday.
