Has Chelsea's deal for Jules Kounde collapsed?

According to reports, Chelsea's plan to sign Jules Kounde from Sevilla this summer has been suspended.

After Romelu Lukaku, it appeared like the center-back would be the Blues' second high-profile acquisition of the summer, with Thomas Tuchel looking to improve his defensive options.

Chelsea believed they had reached a verbal deal to sign Kounde for roughly €50 million (£42.8 million).

However, according to The Athletic, Sevilla has increased their asking price to €15 million (£12.8 million), which Chelsea is unwilling to pay.

According to the report, the Spanish club has changed its mind after watching Chelsea collect £29.8 million for Kurt Zouma's transfer to West Ham United, and they are also concerned about not being able to recruit a suitable replacement before the transfer deadline.

Kounde was left out of Sevilla's squad for Saturday's 1-1 draw with Elche in La Liga.
