Real Madrid and France midfielder Eduardo Camavinga is only 19 today but he's already achieved a frightening amount in his short career, and there's plenty to come.
There are likely to be add-ons and sizeable incentives built into the 31m deal that Madrid agreed for one of the planet's most promising midfield talents, and there will no doubt be a new feeling of animosity brewing between Los Blancos and Paris Saint-Germain; Camavinga was a long-term target for the Parisians.
Here's a quick look at his rise to fame so far.
🧠 Maturity beyond his years
Born in Angola on the 10th of November 2002, this talented naturalized French teenager is going straight to the top. Ever since an astonishing midfield display for Rennes against PSG in 2019 when he was just 16, Camavinga has exploded onto the scene. He made 88 appearances for the Rennes first team and earned three caps for France to boot in that period.

What's been most astounding about Camavinga has been the maturity and completeness of his performances in the centre of the park. This is a quick reminder of how he announced his arrival on the grand stage, just under two years ago against PSG:
Always aware of what's around him, Camavinga seems to have plenty of time on the ball whenever it's at his feet, and that's usually one of the tell-tale signs that you're witnessing a midfielder with extraordinary ability. He's tall, has great balance and is elegant and composed on the ball, picking out teammates at will with crispness and precision on his favoured left foot. He's also combative and defensively astute and adept at wriggling away from markers and progressing the ball upfield. Here are his 2020-21 Ligue 1 stats via Squawka:
🥽 Camavinga's key stats
- In September 2020, on debut for Les Bleus, he became the youngest player to represent France in the post-war era.
- The elegant left-footer was the only player to make 100+ tackles in Ligue 1's 2019-20 campaign and he was only 17 at the time.
- He's only the second 17-year-old in the history of the senior men's national team to score for France.
- Only three players have made 200+ tackles in Europe's top five leagues since the start of the 2019-20 season: Wilfred Ndidi, Aaron Wan-Bissaka & Eduardo Camavinga himself.
A long-term successor to Casemiro’s throne has arrived at the Bernabéu.
