🚨 BREAKING: Barcelona clash with Sevilla postponed

The Laliga clash between FC Barcelona and Sevilla which was slated for this coming Saturday has been postponed.

The game was scheduled to take place at 9 pm local time on Saturday evening, less than 48 hours after World Cup qualifiers are due to take place in South America but according to Spain’s Higher Sports Council, the game will now not go on.

A number of players from both sides are set to be involved in games across South America in the early hours of Friday morning and with the continent is one of the red zones by the Spanish health ministry, the match could cause some health risk should it proceed as earlier planned.

LaLiga had requested to postpone the game but the Spanish FA (RFEF) rejected the appeal before the Higher Sports Council made their ruling.

A statement from Barcelona regarding the same noted: "High Council for Sports (CSD) has adjudicated in favour of the injunction requested by La Liga to postpone the fixture between Sevilla and Barça set for Saturday 11 September.

"The game was set to start at 9 pm CEST in the Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium in Seville but will now be played at a later date. "

The move comes just days after the match between Argentina and Brazil was cancelled midway following the same regulations regarding Covid-19 protocols.
