FC Barcelona’s precocious teenager Ansu Fati has made what is an unforgettable admission about inheriting the number 10 jersey from the great Lionel Messi.
There was a huge surprise when Barca decided not to retire Messi’s iconic jersey, but it was later revealed that the club was forced against the decision by LaLiga’s rules.
Fati was thus given the jersey after the likes of Sergio Aguero and Phillipe Coutinho turned it down.
“The first days were difficult,” Fati said about taking the jersey as per Mundo Deportivo.
“I didn’t want to accept it, but it was what it was. I had to accept it and now it’s over. Everything happens for a reason and I’m eager more than ever to enjoy it again.
“The day I put on my boots for the first session I asked the club for permission to have my father and little brother there.
“When they saw me jump, run and touch the ball they cried. I did too. It was a very exciting day for my family,” the 18-year-old concluded.
Up next for the Catalans is UEFA Champions League action away in Portugal against the mighty Benfica.
