๐Ÿšจ Preston 0-2 Liverpool: Minamino, Origi on target as Liverpool advance to EFL quarters

Liverpool booked a place in the EFL Cup quarter-final courtesy of 2-0 win over Preston North End on Wednesday night.

Jurgen Klopp made 11 changes to his team from the side that beat Manchester United 5-0 in the Premier League on Sunday, handing two youngsters their full senior team debut.

The team failed to trouble the hosts for long periods, despite being firm favorites.

Instead, it was the hosts who came close to opening the scores on a number of occasions, with the first being an attempt in the 25th minute when Brad Potts unleashed a shot from the edge of the box but Adrian made a stunning save to stop the effort from flying into the roof of the net.

Preston returned again in the 28th minute, this time Sean Maguire forcing another save from Adrian.

Almost immediately, Ryan Ledson met a rebound inside the penalty area and unleashed a quick strike towards the middle of the target that beat the keeper, only for a defender to make a goal-line clearance.

Despite their efforts, they were undone just after the hour mark as Neco Williams put a cross into the box and found Minamino, who latches on to it and stroke the ball inside the left post.

Divock Origi then made it 2-0 after arriving on a rebound ball first, finding the back of the net with a brilliant back-heel finish.

In another match on the night, Tottenham Hotspur beat Burnley to also sail through to the quarters.

Lucas Moura scored the lone goal in the 68th minute after he rose highest to meet an Emerson Royal ball to plant a header from close-range, giving Nick Pope no chance.
