Paris Saint-Germain boss Mauricio Pochettino has revealed Lionel Messi was subbed at halftime in their win over Lille as a precaution over an injury.
Messi had picked up a muscle injury that forced him to train alone on Thursday and was handed a start against Lille on Friday. The Argentine played the first 45 minutes before he was dragged off for Mauro Icardi as his side was down 1-0.
Marquinhos and Angel Di María were on target as Les Parisiens staged a comeback to register a 2-1 victory.
Lots of questions were asked on why Messi was brought off at a half-time and Pochettino revealed the 34-year-old had to leave as a precaution.
"We have to wait. We were with the doctors at half-time, it’s a precaution, he couldn’t continue. We hope that’s not a big deal," said Pochettino.
The former Barcelona captain is yet to score in the Ligue 1 having already featured five times for the French giants.
He scored his first goal for PSG in the Champions League as his side beat Manchester City 2-0.
