Liverpool's Keita ruled out of Atletico Madrid return leg as duo returns

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has revealed midfielder Naby Keita will miss the Champions League return leg clash with Atletico Madrid due to a hamstring injury.

Keita picked up a knock inside 20 minutes of play during Liverpool's 2-2 draw with Brighton less than a week after he was stretched off in his side 5-0 victory over Manchester United in the second half. Klopp has revealed the midfielder will be out for a more prolonged period.

"Naby has a hamstring injury, so he will be out for a while," Klopp said on Tuesday.

Klopp has also revealed Thiago Alcantara and Fabinho are in contention to face Atleti after they resumed training.

"Apart from that Millie (James Milner) is clear and others who are rather a long term are out as well."

"But yes, Fabinho and Thiago trained col normal and are in contention, which is good, obviously. That is helpful, so we shall see, but yes, injuries are completely normal at this stage of the season."

"As long as they are not too harsh then we have to accept that and so some players will be back, hopefully soon and they are in contention as well."

"But for tomorrow, no, only the fit players, obviously."

If Liverpool beat Atletico tomorrow then it will see them through to the last 16 with two games to spare.
