European Roundup: Inter ends Napoli unbeaten run as Real Madrid crush Granada

Inter Milan ended Napoli's unbeaten run by beating them 3-2 in a Serie A game staged on Sunday night.

Napoli took the lead through Piotr Zielinksi before the champions came to life with Hakan Calhanoglu, Ivan Perisic, and Lautaro Martinez on target only for Dries Mertens to cut the deficit late on. The win means that Inter has cut the gap between them and their Sunday opponents and AC Milan at the top of the league table to four points.

In another match of the day, Ukrainian legend Andriy Shevchenko started his Genoa reign with a 2-0 loss to AS Roma who needed two late goals from Felix Afena-Gyan for the win. Manager Jose Mourinho once again got himself in the headlines with a second-half booking.

Sunday's Serie A results

In Spain, Vinicius Junior scored his 10th goal of the season as Real Madrid thrashed Granada 4-1 on Sunday to shoot back to the top of La Liga.

Marco Asensio and Nacho Fernandez put Madrid two up inside the opening 30 minutes but Granada briefly made a game of it when Luis Suarez pulled a goal back. Vinicius then added another in the second half with Ferland Mendy making it four to complete a convincing victory, which sends Madrid above Real Sociedad.

Sociedad could only draw 0-0 at home to Valencia and now sit a point behind Real Madrid in second, having played one game more.

In Germany, Eintracht Frankfurt's revival under new coach Oliver Glasner continued with a 2-0 win at third-placed Freiburg.

It was Freiburg's first defeat in the third league game since they moved to a new stadium and a second straight loss in the league after a 2-1 reverse at leaders Bayern Munich before the international break.

In France, the game between Lyon and Marseille was abandoned due to crowd trouble as Nice rallied past Clermont 2-1 to climb to second in Ligue 1, 11 points behind PSG.

A late double from Gouiri completed the turnaround to lift Nice up the table, first leveling from Florent Ogier's early strike with 13 minutes to go before adding his eighth league goal of the season by controlling a corner and guiding the ball into the far corner.
