Liverpool fear early call up for Salah by Egypt

Premier League side Liverpool have fears that Egypt might hand a early call up to Mohammed Salah for the African Cup of Nations Tournament in January.

European clubs having African players whose teams will be participating in the tournament had anticipated to have their players until the weekend prior to Sunday, January 9, 2022 date when the tournament kicks off.

However, it has now emerged that CAF Champions League holders Al Ahly are about to dissaray those plans as they want CAF to instead kick off the Afcon on January 3 – in order to aid their hopes at the upcoming Club World Cup.

The competition will Kick off on February 3, three days prior to the current scheduled Africa Cup of Nations final which would mean that the team heads to the United Arab Emirates without several key men.

Should the request be granted, Liverpool would be without Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane for their visit to title rivals Chelsea on January 2.

It would mean that Arsenal is denied the services of Thomas Partey, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Nicolas Pepe, and Mohamed Elneny for a meeting with Manchester City on New Year’s Day.
