Real Madrid slumped to their first loss in 11 LaLiga outings as they lost 1-0 away to Getafe on Sunday afternoon.
A first-half Enes Unal strike was enough for Getafe to see off the league leaders, which also ended a run of 15 matches without a victory over the Madrid club.
The hosts were brave from the first whistle and easily punished Carlo Ancelotti's side in the ninth minute.
Unal pounced on a moment of indecision from Éder Militão, snatching the ball off the Real Madrid defender, before sliding his sixth goal of the campaign underneath an onrushing Thibaut Courtois.
Courtois then almost immediately cost his side a second when his mistimed clearance fell to the feet of Sandro Ramírez, but the 26-year-old was unable to sweep home.
Real Madrid then worked their way back into the match and came closest to equalizing on two occasions through Luka Modric.
The Croat first forced a brilliant save from the goalkeeper, before crashing another effort against the crossbar in the 19th minute.
The visitors came close on a number of other occasions, but Getafe held on to collect maximum points, their second in a row.
Madrid, on the other hand, will be looking over their shoulders with Sevilla six points behind with two matches at hand.
