Messi continues COVID recovery, misses Lyon trip

As he recovers from COVID-19, Lionel Messi will miss Paris Saint-trip Germain's to Lyon.

After testing positive for the virus during the recent winter break in French football, Messi has returned to Paris. As a result, he was unable to participate in PSG's 4-0 triumph over Vannes in the French Cup.

He is now free of the infection, but he is not yet fit to play for the Ligue 1 leaders and will miss the match on Sunday.

"Lionel Messi will continue his post-COVID individual protocol in the coming days," PSG said in a statement.

Due to COVID-19 isolation periods, the French giants will also miss Angel Di Maria, Julian Draxler, Danilo Pereira, Layvin Kurzawa, and Gianluigi Donnarumma. Neymar is also healing from an injury and is expected to be back in training in three weeks.

PSG top Ligue 1 with 46 points after 19 games, and they lead second-placed Marseille by ten points.
