Southampton's Fraser Forster earns England recall

Southampton goalkeeper Fraser Forster has been called up to England squad for the upcoming international friendlies.

The 34-year-old replaces Sam Johnstone, who missed training on Tuesday before withdrawing from the squad on Wednesday due to illness.

Johnstone was himself called up to replace Arsenal shot-stopper Aaron Ramsdale, who withdrew due to a hip injury.

This is the first time Forster has joined the Three Lions since 2017 under Roy Hodgson and has six senior caps to his name.

Forster joins Saints teammates James Ward-Prowse and Kyle Walker-Peters in the squad for back-to-back Wembley friendlies against Switzerland on Saturday 26th March and Ivory Coast on Tuesday 29th March.

He has been impressive in goal for the Saints since taking over from Alex McCarthy, who picked an injury on Boxing Day.

Forster will become England's third-choice keeper, with Everton's Jordan Pickford and Burnley's Nick Pope ahead of him.
