The United States Men's Football Team booked their place at the 2022 World Cup despite losing 2-0 away to Costa Rica in the final CONCACAF World Cup qualifier match on Thursday morning.
USA knew they only had to avoid a six-goal loss to make it to Qatar directly without going into a play-off with the winner of the Oceania group.
This was made possible thanks to USA's 5-1 demolition of Panama in the previous qualifier, a match in which captain Christian Pulisic scored a hat-trick.

Juan Pablo Vargas gave Costa Rica the lead early in the second half before Anthony Contreras doubled their lead before the hour-mark.
USA's best efforts were thwarted by a determined Keylor Navas, but the visitors held on to return to football's grandest stage later this year, having missed the 2018 tournament.
Costa Rica finished World Cup qualifiers in fourth place and will now face New Zealand in a playoff for a World Cup berth.
