Europa Conference League: Leicester City rally from behind to advance to semis

Leicester City came from behind to beat PSV Eindhoven 2-1 to advance to the semi-finals of the Europa Conference League on Thursday evening.

The Foxes headed into the clash with a 0-0 first-half result and conceded in the 27th minute thanks to Eran Zahavi's opener. However, in the second half, James Maddison scored the leveler before Ricardo Pereira grabbed a late winner for Leicester.

Leicester City found themselves trailing in the 27th minute and it was a costly mistake from Youri Tielemeans that led to the opening goal. Tielemans attempted to play the back to Jonny Evans but PSV were pressing high and Mario Gotze intercepted quickly. He slid it into the box for Eran Zahavi who finished with a fine shot from a tight angle.

The Foxes were now chasing for a leveler and responded immediately as Albrighton swang corner into the middle and the ball dropped for Maddison. He took a shot and the ball deflected over the goalkeeper and looked to be sneaking in before Teze popped up and cleared it with a bicycle kick over his own head.

Another chance for the visitors came as Ricardo Pereira got up the pitch on the right side and set up Maddison for a shot just inside the box. The midfielder rolled the ball onto his right foot and curled one at goal only to see it head narrowly over the crossbar.

Brendan Rodgers' men finally saw the back of the net through Maddison, a goal that drew the tie level. There was an excellent interplay down the right involving Pereira and Perez. The ball was pulled back from the bar-line to Maddison who slammed his shot into the roof of the net.

Penalty claim

There were loud Leicester appeals for a penalty after Maddison went down in the area, but Veerman got their first. Former Tottenham striker Vinicius had been introduced from the bench for PSV.

Pereira goal

In the 88th minute, Ricardo Pereira scored a wonderful team goal to give Leicester the lead, a strike that put the visitors in the driving seat to advance to the semis.

Maddison and Dewsbury-Hall exchanged passes, and the latter found Lookman with a cute reverse pass, the ball is squared to Daka whose shot was blocked but it ran from Pereira to smash home the rebound.

The Foxes have now become the first team to make the semi-finals of this year's tournament.
